I do not believe in coincidences. I believe the timing of everything and the connected nature of life means that everything happens for a reason. So, I do not think it is a coincidence that the number of cards in a single deck is the same number of weeks in a year. For 52 weeks in 2018, each week is assigned a different card. For the next 13 weeks, we will be in the suit of HEARTS. This week is the first card, the Ace of Hearts. The work of The Learning Club for 2018 will be focused on getting the most out of each week, and this blog will be dedicated to the idea of getting better and ahead. To do so, try to focus some energy each week on reading a book, cooking a new recipe, and making a craft project.
I just finished my first book of 2018: Fr. Gregory Boyle’s Barking to the Choir: The Power of Radical Kinship. I was fortunate enough to recently hear him speak, and an autographed copy of his book was included in the event. The overall theme of the book is how interconnected we all are. “For if we don’t welcome our own wounds, we will be tempted to despise the wounded.” Our wounds are there to heal us, and all wounds come with zero judgment. When we remove the judgment of all pain, we find that we are ultimately all connected. How can you use your pain to help connect with someone else?
